* PLEASE NOTE: Registration is open from July 1 - Dec 15 each year. AP courses must be completed by June 1st.
Prerequisites for AP Calculus: Students must have completed their grade 10 year; have completed PreCalculus 11 with a minimum grade of 80% and be concurrently enrolled in Math 12, having received an interim grade of 80% in Math 12 . Final authorization for enrollment in an AP course rests with the AP subject teacher.
Description
AP @ SIDES is the only online advanced placement program in Canada to offer specially designed high school courses that provide credit at the University and College level. All courses prepare students to successfully pass the approved College Board exam. In addition, since the student will have already completed first year level University courses, the student's chances of acceptance at Colleges and Universities are increased.
AP @ SIDES provides students with interactive courseware that goes beyond conventional online high school courses to offer an unparalleled critical challenge. All courseware for AP @ SIDES is developed by Apex Learning (www.apexlearning.com).
In AP Calculus AB, students learn to understand change geometrically and visually (by studying graphs of curves), analytically (by studying and working with mathematical formulas), numerically (by seeing patterns in sets of numbers), and verbally. Instead of simply getting the right answer, students learn to evaluate the soundness of proposed solutions and to apply mathematical reasoning to real-world models. Calculus helps scientists, engineers, and financial analysts understand the complex relationships behind real-world phenomena.
AP Calculus is a two-semester course and includes roughly 200 hours of instruction and work time.
