Rachel Morris

It is recommended that students complete English 8.

English 9 Online is designed to meet the new BC English 9 Curriculum (2016) https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/english-language-arts/9

It is an online course with interactive lessons, a variety of guided activities and assignments, and rubric-based assessment. Assignments foster critical and creative thinking, literacy skills, and the continued development of writing and reading skills.

There are four units in this course:
Unit One: Spectators/Players (paragraph writing/short story basics)
Unit Two: Descriptive Writing (Prose)/Descriptive Writing (Poetry)
Unit Three: Myths and Legends/Creative Writing
Unit Four: Novel Study

There is a course midterm after Unit 2, which tests material in Units 1 and 2. There is a course final tests material covered in Units 3 and 4 of the course.

Student-paced - English 9 is a self-paced course and students can begin throughout the year. Students work through the course at their own pace, but they must complete the course within one year.

Students will complete a variety of assignments to demonstrate skill building and knowledge of concepts. These include online quizzes, charts, discussion postings, and a wide variety of writing assignments. Assignments are submitted electronically through the course dropbox to ensure prompt feedback. Most assessments are rubric-based.

There will be a supervised midterm and final exam.
