Description

Care Economy Career Sampler 11 is built upon five big ideas:

• Career life development includes ongoing cycles of exploring, planning, reflecting, adapting, and personalizing one's education, experiences, and options.
• Well-being and self-care support excellence, learning, and competence sustaining careers in the Care Economy sector.
• Awareness of diverse world views enables understanding of complex communities and opens pathways to inclusivity and accessibility.
• The desire to help and serve others is a value shared by all occupations in the Care Economy sector.
• Focused exploration and real-life connections with campuses, worksites and career programs lead to informed post-secondary choices.

The five units in the course include:

• Unit 1: What is the Care Economy?
  In this mandatory unit students will learn the foundational skills needed to work in any sector of the Care Economy.
• Unit 2: K-12 Education or Early Childhood Learning
  Students will choose to take a deeper dive into one of these education related sectors of the Care Economy.
• Unit 3: Health Care Assistant or Emergency Medical Care Worker
  Students will choose to take a deeper dive into one of these Care Economy related fields.
• Unit 4: Mental Health Support Worker or Allied Health Worker
  Students will choose to take a deeper dive into one of these medical related fields.
• Unit 5: Portfolio Presentation
  The final unit of the course will require students to create a portfolio and present it to their teacher on a specific job in the Care Economy.

For each unit, there are many opportunities for students to practice their skills before submitting a major assignment or in the case where the student is already comfortable with the material, there is an opportunity to move forward. You analyze your needs and you set the pace. We help you achieve those goals!

Assessment

Assessment is the systematic gathering of information about what students know, understand, and are able to do in relation to the curricular competencies and content for this course. Here are the key ways you will be assessed:

• "Formative" submissions on which descriptive feedback is given and no grade.
• Polished submissions in a variety of forms.
• Final project presented to your teacher.

A final mark will be based on the student’s body of work as a whole.
