Renaissance Program
For students who wish to push beyond the standard curriculum
View our pdf brochure...The Renaissance Program allows secondary students enrich their education through:
- Studying topics in depth
- Working with other students
- Meeting and learning from experts in the field under investigation
- Creating, polishing, and presenting projects
This year, we are pleased to offer a series of five Renaissance activities. Several of these themes fall "outside" the traditional school curriculum, and call on several disciplines. Generally, series are made up of five two-hour sessions, and will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m.
All sessions (except the trip to Bamfield) are free-of-cost to full-time SIDES students.
- Aristotle to Ziegfield: The classical unities revisited.
- Who Killed Mary's Lamb: A forensic science whodunit.
- Portfolio Presentation Directed Study: Investigation and Celebrating an interest.
- The Marine Environment: Exploring Bamfield - A Three Day excursion.
- Explorations In Social Sciences: What Makes U Tick?
Participation in the Renaissance Program is voluntary. Students are expected to attend all sessions and complete all assignments. It is expected that student participation is this program will reflect effort, and finished products will be polished and well-developed.
Students must register in advance for each series. Enrolment in each series is limited and places are filled on a first-come-first-served basis. In the case of the trip to Bamfield, a deposit secures the place.
