It is recommended that students complete English 10.
Communications 11 online is a dynamic, alternative course in English that meets the needs of students who might find it difficult to succeed in English 11 and English 12. Its high-interest lessons focus on honing practical communication skills. In this course students will complete a range of reading, writing, speaking and listening activities that will engage, challenge and build confidence in spoken and written communication.
This course is available in both Student-paced (12 month continuous enrollment) and Teacher-paced (contact teacher for schedule) online versions.
Teacher-paced - closely mirrors the classroom experience in an online environment and is particularly well suited to students who require consistent guidance, motivation and direction. The teacher establishes a semester-based work schedule for students and teaches regularly scheduled virtual classes. This option is available to students twice a year. The first session begins in September and ends in January, while the second session begins in February and ends in June.
Student-paced - for those who wish to take responsibility for establishing their own timelines or who need to have maximum flexibility in terms of course work in order to accommodate other activities in their lives.
There will be a variety of written assignments including paragraphs, editorials, emails and one essay. Students will also be asked to write and record a speech.
Students will write a mid-term exam after completing the first two units and a final exam at the end of the course.
