Description

Just what exactly is this Humanities 9, you ask? English, Social Studies and Information Technology make up Humanities 9.~ Wow! Together, we will navigate the world of hobbits, explore the causes of revolution in North America and Europe and craft our skills in writing. Once a week we will have a virtual class were we will discuss the assignments, go over any difficult concepts and just plain have fun! During the rest of the week Humanities materials will be accessed through SIDES Online (a password protected website). In this environment, students will complete individual and group assignments, participate in discussions, surveys, quizzes, and access news. There will also be opportunities for get-togethers throughout the year. 

Term 1
September - December

English: "The Hobbit" - Myth and Fantasy, Media Unit, Grammar, and Paragraph writing.

Social Studies: “North America Beckons” - Geography, First Nations and Early European Settlement.

Term 2
January - March

English: Book Club, Short stories, Poetry, Creative Writing, and Drama.

Social Studies: Settlement and Regional Conflict in North America.

Term 3
April - June

English: Independent Novel Study, Technical Writing, Non-Fiction, and Report Writing. 

Social Studies: “Change Comes to Europe”- English Civil War, French Revolution/Napoleonic Era, and The Industrial Revolution.
