The tourism industry in BC is expected to experience an extreme shortage of qualified employees. It is anticipated that this shortage will occur throughout the tourism industry in accommodations, food and beverage services, transportation, recreation and entertainment, and travel services.
Clearly, the need for workers with a diverse range of skills, knowledge, and aptitudes will increase. Although the shortage will be distributed throughout the province, it will be felt most keenly at the supervisory and management levels where training, education and experience are most important.

Unit 1: Introduction to Tourism
Students are introduced to the evolution of tourism and the eight sectors of the tourism industry.
Unit 2: Positive Attitude of the Tourism Professional
Students will examine positive attitude, responsibility, adaptability, and willingness to learn
Unit 3: Transferrable Skills of the Tourism Professional
Students are provided with the opportunity to develop and practice the transferrable skills of communication, information management, thinking, computers use, and the ability to work with others
Unit 4: Preparing to Succeed in the Tourism Industry
Students will develop job search skills, create a resume, and examine the use of portfolios
